The good news:Racine is finally number 1 at something!
The bad news: We’re number 1 for our jobless rate…
My perspective on this is simple; it’s the schools, stupid!! Companies will not, and are not, moving to this area because we have a low-performing school district.
I ask this question of all the community leaders in the Racine area, “Please, please, please help RUSD solve their problems!”
We cannot continue to have the local politicians wring their hands and look the other way. I’m so bleeding tired of hearing, “RUSD is a separate taxing body. We cannot do anything! Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.”
The schools belong to everyone, and everyone needs to step up and do their share. If we do nothing, the situation will NEVER change.

Could a Metro government that included the 7 municipalities that exist within the RUSD boundaries along with the school district be a possible solution?
At least we wouldn't be hearing the "blame game" as they would be interdependent.
It works in Kalamazoo and Indianapolis, why not Racine?
I am all for consolidation of governmental agencies as long as it makes sense.
Other states, as you have pointed out, have had success with that.
However, I believe that all the our leaders like all their "little kingdoms" and would not like to give up their power.
