- 75% of Americans can identify 2 out of the 7 dwarfs from Disney’s dwarfs from Disney’s Snow White and the 7 Dwarfs
- 25% of Americans can name 2 out of the 9 U.S. Supreme Court Justices
Scary statistic, isn’t it?. There are even more frightening facts that came out of a poll administered by Zogby International that was released earlier this week.
It would seem that our nation’s public educational system is not working, wouldn’t you say?

Just another reason to teach them yourself. At least you know exactly what they're learning and whether or not they're learning it. I know how well my son can read when he sits on daddy's lap and starts trying to read a NORAD report, and does a pretty good job of it too. He's only 6. I'd say that's pretty good.
As a stay at home mom, I feel that my children have had an advantage over those children that do not have at least one parent home with them. We have lots of time to read together and see first hand how are children are progressing. I agree with Shana on that level. However, not all mothers (or fathers) are able to be home with their kids & give them a jump start in learning. So, we need an efficient learning system for those children too. Something needs to change, what & how I'm not exactly sure about. There are inner city kids left on their own with no help with school work. This is why teachers are such heroes. My oldest daughter has had teachers that give out their home phone numbers to the students. This way, if they are stuck on a question, the teacher can help over the phone. Volunteer your time, be a mentor (be the lady who helps the neighborhood kids with troublesome school work.)Parents permission first of course.
There are a lot more moms who could stay home if their families were willing to make certain sacrifices, and in my opinion it would not only be better for the children, but also better for the economy as well.
We need to stop wasting our money on government schools. They will only get worse, not better. Private schools are going to do better overall because they have something to compete for, and they aren't run by the government (who just want to spend all of our money on useless programs i.e. the little tree excercise at DeKoven). Pumping more money into the cesspool isn't going to make it any better.
Whether or not people want to homeschool is up to them. But we shouldn't be forced to pay exorbitant taxes to fund something that is not used by everyone, and can barely educate our children.
